Local Enterprise Offices, their primary role in terms of grant aid is to support Manufacturing or Internationally Traded Services. Essentially those businesses that have the potential to progress into export markets. Eligible clients for grant aid must employ less than 10 and have turnover less than €2m. Maximum grant funding is 50% of expenditure (subject to budget constraints) and typically covers, capital equipment, employment grants and some element of marketing support. The mix and level of funding depends on the quality of the promoter and the potential of the business. They act as a feeder into Enterprise Ireland which then aids businesses move into export markets. LEO’s do support all businesses with the Trading Online Voucher (subject to certain eligibility criteria), Microfinance Ireland, training and mentor support. It’s important that any business owner should contact the Local Enterprise Office in the first instance, as, as well as providing supports LEO’s can refer to other support agencies.
