One Million Stars to End Violence In Ireland

Delighted to join in this community arts project connecting communities across Ireland in solidarity against domestic abuse and all forms of violence. Thanks to Amber Women’s Refuge for bringing Ireland Star Weavers to End Violence to Leinster House.

I joined my Green Party Ireland colleague Minister Malcolm Noonan T.D. and others in making stars for One Million Stars Ireland, which is part of the global One Billion Stars project which was founded in Australia following the rape and murder of an Irish woman living in Melbourne. Each eight pointed star woven represents light, hope and solidarity against domestic, sexual and gender based violence. Co-ordinated by Art Therapist Siobhan McQuillan, there are currently star weavers in 20 counties who have woven over 100,000 stars so far.
