Sen Roisin Garvey of Inagh Co.Clare

Born and living on the family farm in Co. Clare, I am a mother, educator, environmentalist, activist, former County Councillor for North Clare and now a Green Party Senator in Seanad Éireann.

About Sen Roisin Garvey

Inspired by the hardworking and creative people of Clare I have co-founded and organised funding for educational and sporting groups and healthcare services, community events, environmental campaigns and local infrastructure projects throughout Clare.

I’m the first woman and first Green elected to Clare Co. Council for North Clare. I got 9.5% of the vote in Clare in the 2020 General Election, one of the highest Green votes in the country.

I became a Senator in May 2020 as a Taoiseach’s nominee to the Seanad and bring a strong, rural, social justice and climate representation from someone with a lot of experience, as well as a rural female voice from west of the Shannon.

Roisin Garvey Priorities

I am Spokesperson for Rural Development and Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

I am a member of the Oireachtas delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and sit on the Committee for Equality and Non Discrimination.

My priorities include; more and better housing, increased rural public transport and better active travel infrastructure for walking and cycling including Greenways for connected and accessible communities; working with our farmers for sustainable economic and environmental outcomes that take into account Climate Change and what that requires from us. I want to give younger people a voice and to give them hope in relation to their concerns about climate and their futures and Water, the right to access to clean water is a basic human right and something I have worked long and hard on and will continue to do so. I support businesses, in particular SME’s, the backbone of our economy and work to support and increase sustainable jobs, circular economy and the greening of business.

The people of Clare need a strong voice in Government. I have the drive and determination to persistently make sure Clare’s voice is heard and our needs are met.
